Lock Upgrades for Homes and Businesses
At Midlands Locksmiths, we are experts in assessing, supplying and fitting lock upgrades for homes and commercial properties across Coventry, Leicester and the West Midlands. We examine the lock, door, handles, frame and mechanism together, identifying the weak points and recommending what actually needs changing.
If your home or business needs a security upgrade or you are worried about the safety of your property, contact the Midlands Locksmith and discover which locks are right for your needs.
Which High Security Door Locks Are Right for Your Property?
There is no single lock that suits every door. A timber front door needs a different approach from a uPVC or composite door, and a new cylinder will not solve a weakness elsewhere in the locking system.
At Midlands Locksmiths, we regularly attend properties after break ins and attempted burglaries, so our advice reflects how doors and locks are attacked.
5 Lever Mortice Lock Upgrades for Wooden Doors
For many wooden and timber doors, a 5 lever mortice lock that meets the British BS3621 standard is a sensible first line of defence. It sits within the edge of the door and is commonly used on traditional front and back doors.
If your existing door locks are old, worn or do not carry the British Standard marking you need, we can check what is fitted and advise whether replacement is necessary. We can also look at the night latch, frame and other fittings rather than judging the mortice lock on its own.
The Master Locksmiths Association security standards guidance covers BS3621 and other recognised lock standards. If an insurer specifies a particular standard, check your policy wording and we can help confirm whether your lock meets it.
Security Door Locks for uPVC and Composite Doors
uPVC and composite doors usually use a multipoint locking mechanism operated by a euro cylinder. Even with several locking points, a basic cylinder can leave the door vulnerable to snapping.
We can fit anti snap cylinder locks with protection against snapping, drilling, picking and bumping. Depending on the door and security required, options can include TS007 and Sold Secure-rated cylinders, anti-drill and anti-bump features, and thumb turn cylinders for operation from inside.
If the mechanism itself is worn or difficult to operate, we will tell you. Sometimes the right answer is to repair part of the larger locking system rather than simply fit a new cylinder.

When Should You Upgrade Existing Door Locks?
You don’t have to wait until a lock fails before considering a replacement. It is worth asking us to check your front door locks if:
– You have recently moved and do not know who may still have a key
– Spare keys have been lost or are no longer accounted for
– Your property has had a break-in or attempted break-in
– Your existing locks are old, damaged or do not meet the standard you need.
If you have moved home and want to take back control of access, our lock changing service can help.
For doors, frames or other vulnerable entry points, we can also fit additional security fixings and provide practical crime prevention advice.
If a damaged lock has left you unable to get in, our emergency lock opening service focuses on restoring access with as little disruption as possible.
Why Choose Midlands Locksmiths for Lock Upgrades?
We are a family-run locksmith company and are not tied to any single lock manufacturer. This lets us compare a range of quality locks, brands and security ratings to meet the needs of our customers, rather than pushing one option for every property.
Our locksmiths are fully insured and DBS checked. In addition, our work is guaranteed, and we provide fixed-price jobs where the requirements are clear and we are committed to explaining the options and benefits of our service before anything is fitted.
Not sure whether you have a mortice lock, euro cylinder or something else? Don’t panic! Call or message Midlands Locksmiths and tell us what you are concerned about. We can assess your existing locks, explain the best upgrade options and give you a clear price before the work starts.
