These are simple to change yourself, but we also carry a full stock of replacements on our vans.

If you want to change them yourself, the only real thing we would say to be careful of is if you think your handles are playing up and it’s a bit gritty and crunchy when lifting or depressing the handle. It may not be the handle at fault, and maybe it’s the spindle hole casing that has failed, so when removing the handle and spindle, the casing (the follower) could collapse. If this happens, your door lock will no longer operate (not scaremongering here – just giving advice), as this has happened to us lots of times when on jobs, i.e. the customer has called us thinking it’s just a new handle – but it is in fact the UPVC locking mechanism at fault .

If your handles operate fine, then this issue shouldn’t be a problem.

If you are unsure of which size you need, take a photo and we will see you right – or we are able to visit you and supply and fit.

If your handles are floppy or not sitting straight or not springing back to the neutral position, it may be the handle, or it could be the mechanism that is tired and giving you pre-warning that it is about to fail. Putting on new handles may just kid you that the problem is solved however, in saying that, it could just be a £2 spring cassette that needs replacing.

In all fairness, there has been some serious advancement in uPVC/composite door handles over recent years with the added features of anti-snap handles and a locking trigger/switch actually on the handle, which have seen them being awarded 2-star security accreditation.
